Wakefield Estate
Shiraz 2008
| Region: | Clare Valley |
Alluring ripe berry and plum flavours are perfectly balanced with mocha, spice and creamy vanilla characters from American oak.
On release, the wine displays amazing depth of colour with dark opaque reds and a deep black centre.
Wine Bouquet
The wine is dark and brooding in its youth with aromas of violets, plum and dark cherry along with dusty oak derived spice and vanilla adding complexity.
Wine Palate
The palate is rich, luscious and round with intense, perfectly ripen fruit characters. Dark chocolate and vanilla characters complement the generous red berry flavours. The wine has a well balanced structure with great texture and surprising delicacy to the finish.
Cellaring Notes
This wine can be enjoyed upon release but will reward careful cellaring up to and possibly beyond 2016.

The official price for this Clare Valley red is $19, but you often see it significantly reduced which makes it outstanding value. It has a bouquet of plums and violets, and big ripe berry and dark chocolate flavours, with a bit of pepper and spice complexity. There's vanilla flavours in there too from the oak. All up it's beautifully drinkable. For me it's a T-bone steak special. Ever reliable and still good value.Shiraz with pizzazz

Clare shiraz does it's regional magic here, sweet fruited with a subtle whiff of eucalypt off in the background, but look for its crunch and bite in the mouth from pin-point berry ripeness, all backed up smartly with a faint touch of oak. A good all-rounder.
Wakefield Estate Shiraz 200886/100Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, December 2010
The 2008 Estate Shiraz presents a deep garnet-purple color and earthy tar and damp loam aromas over cassis and black plum plus some hints of blackberry compote, licorice and dark chocolate. Full bodied with a firm level of chewy tannins, it has a high level of acid and a medium-long straightforward finish. Drink this one now to 2014.Best Wines of 2010

A light grip of tannins surrounds the syrupy black cherry and blackberry flavours in this polished shiraz. Drink now
Wakefield Estate Shiraz 200887 pointsWine Advocate (USA), November 2011
Supple at first, with brown sugar and prune flavors that seem sweetly ripe, but this full-bodied wine firms up substantially on the finish, where it turns a bit eathery in flavor and coffee-astringent. Drink now, before the fruit fades.
