Wakefield Estate
Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
| Region: | Clare Valley |
Rich expressive flavours of cassis, mulberry and a hint of eucalypt. French oak maturation adds touches of dark chocolate, cedar and spice.
On release the wine is a deep red with a vibrant purple hue.
Wine Bouquet
The wine has an aroma of rich blackcurrant, licorice, subtle spice and a touch of dried basil. French oak maturation is also evident with subtle aromas of tobacco leaf and cedar.
Wine Palate
This is a wine of great intensity. It has distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. Subtle oak characters of cedar cigar box and spice are also evident. The tannins are fine and elegant – a hallmark of the varietal. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.
Cellaring Notes
This wine has been crafted to be enjoyed upon release but will continue to develop and reward patience with careful cellaring up to and possibly beyond 2019.

Wine of the week
It's hard to go wrong with the wines from this family-owned Clare Valley producer, which are invariably good value for money. This is a lip-smackingly good, rich and powerful red wine with plenty of oomph on the palate, oak in harmony and soft tannins. It's a juicy and appealing red wine with that indefinable quality: drinkability.Margaret River

It's steady as she goes for the Clare Valley based TayIors who have been making in the region for more than four decades. This consistently good cabernet, released in tandem with the Estate Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Merlot is super smart with lashings of black fruit, subtle spice, nicely balanced oak and supple tannins.Clare Valley and Surrounding Regions

A nice, smooth, full-bodied red...Wakefield takes great pride in this red, and I'm not sure I've enjoyed one more than this. There are dark cherry and red berry flavours to open with, then chocolatey dark fruit comes to the fore. It's smooth and gentle with friendly, fine tannins.theplonktest

Here's one that if you haven't had, you should. That's not because it is the greatest red ever put in a bottle, more that it's a good honest Aussie wine. From SA's Clare Valley, it's a nice dry finisher and goes well with a summerish lamb dish. Yet another that's been around for yonks, this cab sav is consistently good.

This is an outstanding cabernet and I think it outshines some of its significantly more pricey peers. Great blackcurrant and berry flavours, balanced with a touch of basil. Perfect year-round, with a hearty stew in winter of barbecued meat in summer.
